Project description

This PhD project will focus on the issue of ensuring a sustainable development of the digital economy, or on how the digital economy can support sustainable development in Europe. The PhD research will examine how the EU institutions and EU member states can contribute to regulating these issues, favour digitalisation over the green transition (or vice versa), and what would be the best politically, economically and socially acceptable solutions to regulate these issues.

Selection criteria

You have obtained, or shortly expect to obtain, a Master's degree in law, preferably with a focus on EU law. A Master's degree in another discipline will also be considered if it includes a strong emphasis on EU law and policy.

You possess strong analytical skills and excellent academic writing skills, which should be apparent from your CV.

You are enthusiastic and curious, and have perseverance, willpower and the ability to independently conduct scientific research and publish the results.

You have a proactive and flexible attitude.

You have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

The followings are considered assets:

Previous work experience with EU Law, for example at one of the EU institutions or, alternatively, international study or work experience.

A good command of the Dutch language or another EU language or, alternatively, the willingness to learn Dutch or to improve your Dutch language skills.

Sufficient knowledge of an additional EU language to carry out research in this language.
